Course “Junior Florist”
(4 days, 20 hours)
This course is designed for those who want to learn the basics of working as a florist in a shop. During the training, students will learn how to care for flowers: cleaning, storage, and methods for extending the life of cut plants. The course will also cover classic bouquet and arrangement techniques. Special attention will be given to vertical bouquets, spiral technique, as well as round and wildflower compositions. Upon completion of the course, participants will be prepared to work as florists in Czech flower shops.

Day 1

Topic: Fundamentals of Florist Work and Flower Preparation
- Theoretical Part:
- Receiving flower deliveries: how to check quality and freshness.
- Proper stem cleaning: removing excess leaves and thorns.
- Basics of flower care in a shop:
- Storage conditions (temperature, humidity).
- Correct watering and cleaning of plants.
- Practical Part:
- Cleaning and preparing flowers for sale.
- Organizing the workspace.
Day 2

Topic: Basics of Composition, Color Theory, and Flower Hierarchy
- Theoretical Part:
- Key Concepts:
- Flower Hierarchy:
- Focal flowers (dominant elements).
- Filling flowers (creating volume).
- Accents and decorative elements.
- Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio.
- Color combinations: warm, cool, and contrasting tones.
- Working with textures: combining smooth and textured elements.
- Practical Part:
- Creating a round bouquet using the spiral technique.
- Bouquets with 3, 5, 7, and 9 stems, focusing on height balance.
- Analyzing examples based on flower hierarchy principles.
Day 3

Topic: Working with Floristic Materials
- Theoretical Part:
- Introduction to floral foam (oasis):
- Principles of use and application.
- Types and properties of foam.
- Basics of creating wreaths with a straw base.
- Introduction to floral foam (oasis):

- Creating a simple arrangement using floral foam.
- Preparing and assembling a wreath on a straw base.
Day 4

Topic: Florist’s Work Organization and Practice
Theoretical Part:
- Organizing a flower shop:
- Product display and window arrangement.
- Accounting for seasonality and trends.
- Working with clients: key principles of communication.
- Recap of flower hierarchy: combining elements based on their role in a composition.
Practical Part:
- Final practice session:
- Revisiting round bouquets and vertical arrangements.
- Completing a composition with floral foam.
- Creating a wreath.
- Evaluation of participants’ work: analysis and feedback.
